PDS rice seized; two arrested

Two tonnes of rice meant for public distribution system was seized by the Coastal Security Group (CSG) police in a coastal village Koothanguzhi on Wednesday night and was handed over to the Food Cell Police, Tirunelveli, said Sahaya Jose, Inspector, CSG Group of the police. During routine patrolling, a team led by Sub Inspector Nambiar intercepted a van near Koothanguzhi. Search revealed that two tones of ration rice was concealed under plastic trays of fish.

The rice was seized. Van driver Mohanraj and his associate Rajendran (42) were arrested, Mr. Jose said.

Flying squad of the civil supplies department found 245 litres of subsidised kerosene purportedly concealed in a dilapidated building in Manjathoppu near Kollancode in the early hours on Friday.
