Choice of food is an individual’s right: Anbumani Ramadoss

Pattali Makkal Katchi leader Anbumani Ramadoss has condemned the Centre's move to regulate sale of cattle in markets for slaughter.

Talking to reporters here on Friday, he said the decision would affect the farmers and a few communities involved in rearing of cattle for their livelihood. “Besides, choice of food is an individual's right and the Government should not interfere with it,” he said.

Dr. Anbumani wondered why the Centre differentiated between cows and buffalos in this issue.

He said that the Centre was trying to make India a ‘vegetarian nation’ without any space for non-vegetarians. Recalling that the AIADMK Government, led by Jayalalithaa, in the past imposed a ban on sacrifice of animals in temples which backfired, he wanted the Union Government to withdraw the order.

Dr. Anbumani also criticised the Centre for the reduced economic growth rate.

Demonetisation had wiped out several small scale industries. Goods and Service Tax would also have a similar effect, he also claimed.

Dr. Anbumani was here to felicitate 21 persons, including party functionary Thilagabama, who were arrested on the charge of vandalising a TASMAC shop.

The State Government was not bothered about pressing issues like that of Cauvery and Mullaperiyar river water dispute and those surrounding NEET.

But, it is keen on making money through selling of liquor, he charged.
