Political parties in the State must unite and pitch tent in New Delhi to pressure the Centre and prevent Karnataka from going ahead with its plan to construct a reservoir across the River Cauvery at Mekedatu, PMK president G.K.Mani said here on Monday.
Speaking to the media after leading his party's demonstration against the move of the Karnataka government near the Panagal Buildings here, Mr.Mani pointed out that in Karnataka all parties have joined hands to pursue a common agenda on the issue, whereas in Tamil Nadu the political parties were not seeing eye to eye even over such a major issue.
Opposition parties must unite, meet the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and together all political entities must pitch tent in New Delhi to present a united front, apply constant pressure on the Centre to prevent the Mekedatu reservoir construction plan of Karnataka that was an affront to the unity and integrity of the country, Mr.Mani said.

Even within Tamil Nadu, people must not think that the issue was affecting just the delta region but the Cauvery issue threatened the whole of the State's population, Mr. Mani reminded adding any laxity on the part of the stakeholders would turn the State into a desert.
The ruling party must come forward to lead the political entities for the March 28 stir to show its resolve, he added.
While Congress betrayed Tamil Nadu over Cauvery, the BJP that promised to establish the Cauvery Management Board within a week into power has not kept its promise so far.

Karnataka has also been flagrantly flouting all Supreme Court and Cauvery Water Dispute Tribunal orders with contempt even as the ruling BJP winks, Mr. Mani observed.
The State Government must not stop with just writing letters to the Prime Minister but must go beyond that to prevent the construction of the reservoirs at Mekedatu, the PMK leader remarked.
