Parks to come up at four places

The corporation has prepared a detailed project report (DPR) for the four green space that are to come up in the city at a total cost of Rs. 1.93 crore.

The corporation is one of the 32 cities/towns selected in the State for implementing schemes under the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT). The Commissioner of Municipal Administration, Chennai had in November 2015 asked the corporation to submit proposals for the green space at a total cost of Rs. 2.14 crore. Under the AMRUT scheme, the Central government would sanction 50 per cent of the project cost while the State government would provide 20 per cent and the balance 30 per cent should be borne by the local body and the public.

Four places were selected for the parks, Ashok Nagar (Ward 3) in Suramangalam Zone at a cost of Rs. 35.60 lakh, Sona Nagar (Ward 5) in Hasthampatti Zone at a cost of Rs. 41.60 lakh, L.K. Township (Ward 9) in Ammapet Zone at a cost of Rs. 51.26 lakh and Kanchi Nagar (Ward 60) in Seelanaickenpatti, Kondalampatti Zone at Rs. 65 lakh. A DPR has been prepared at a total cost of Rs. 193.46 lakh.

Officials said that the parks would have all the basic amenities apart from space for walking, playing and enjoying the leisure time. The parks would have more saplings so that it creates greenery in the area. “The DPR would be forwarded to the Commissioner of Municipal Administration,” they added.
