The panel appointed by the Madras High Court on Wednesday inspected the houses in Natham Colony, near Naikkankottai village, damaged in the violence on November 7 last year.

The panel headed by R. Vasuki, Additional Secretary, Department of Agriculture, has been hearing the grievances of the riot-affected families in Natham, Anna Nagar and Kondampatti colonies from Sunday.

Petitions received

It has received 441 petitions.

After receiving the petitions, the five-member panel started inspecting the affected colonies and made house-to-house survey from Wednesday morning for cross-verification of the claims of the residents.

The Hindu that the claims of undervaluation by the revenue authorities by the residents and the veracity of the claimants were checked thoroughly by the team members.

The exercise would continue for another week. Only after cross-verification, the panel could come to a conclusion about the real picture, he added.
