As many 429 out-of-school children, including 168 differently-abled children, in the age group of 6 to 14 were identified in a survey conducted by Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan in April in the district.

Officials said that the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act, 2009, makes education mandatory for children in the age group and hence, the survey was carried in all the blocks in the district. Block resource teachers, special teachers, Anganwadi workers, members of village education committees and teacher trainees were involved in the job.

The focus is on inclusive education for the disabled, differently-abled and school dropouts. Officials said that the identified children will be admitted to special training centres and basic education would be provided. In the case of differently-abled children, medical assessment would be done and they would either be send to regular schools or day care centres in their respective areas.
