After a case of suspected dengue was identified at Lourdhammalpuram on the outskirts of the town, a team of officials led by Collector M. Ravikumar visited the area and conducted awareness programmes to prevent an outbreak of the disease.
As the patient with dengue symptoms was admitted to a private hospital, the officials visited the area, mostly housing fishermen, on Friday morning. A team conducted door-to-door inspection to detect unreported dengue cases and ascertain sanitary conditions in the area. Another team distributed pamphlets detailing methods of shielding themselves from dengue.
Deputy Director of Public Health Uma, who accompanied the Collector, said that a complete survey had been done in and around Lourdhammalpuram to assess the situation and all precautionary measures taken to prevent dengue outbreak.

Corporation Commissioner S. Madhumathi visited many houses at Anna Nagar. After she saw poor sanitary conditions even within the houses of people belonging to the middle-class in the area, Ms. Madhumathi appealed to the residents to keep their area clean and tidy to prevent dengue outbreak.
She also visited the Tuticorin Medical College Hospital where eight patients with dengue symptoms are undergoing treatment.
