The trade unions of Neyveli Lignite Corporation have proposed to go on an indefinite strike from July 3 to protest the Centre’s decision to divest five per cent stake in the corporation.
General secretary of Labour Progressive Front S. Rajavanniyan told The Hindu on Monday that with the consent of all unions and officers’ associations a series of agitations had been planned. These include wearing badges on June 27, holding gate meetings on June 28 and 29, staging demonstrations on July 1 by the second line union leaders in front of offices, thermal power stations and mines, and observing a day-long fast on July 2 at “Q” bridge at Neyveli.
On July 3, a meeting would be held in the LPF office to announce the strike. “If the Centre does not change its stand by then, employees would go on an indefinite strike from the night shift,” Mr Rajavanniyan said.

Meanwhile, president of the Graduate Engineers’ Association I. Nedumaran said officers had expressed their solidarity with the trade unions
