The only train connecting delta districts to Kerala is Ernakulam Express which runs at full capacity throughout the year. Now, it seems that CRS inspection is awaited for Pollachi-Palaghat section. I request the railway authorities to connect delta districts with Kerala via Dindigul, Palani, and Pollachi. This will ease the congestion in Ernakulam Express.

Lurking danger
at Collectorate
The metallic rods at the entrance to the Collector office in Pudukottai cause more harm especially to differently-abled persons. I request the district administration to provide some facility for hassle-free movement of the differently-abled persons.

Mask headlights
Tamil Nadu tops in road accidents. There is not a single day without reports of accidents which involve lorry, bus, cars, and two-wheelers. Most accidents occur at night. All vehicles heavy dazzling headlights. In Delhi, when Kiren Bedi was the Inspector-General of Police, she strictly implemented a rule that headlights of all vehicles should have to be partly masked. We wish the government to take action.

Parking problem
at Kumbakonam
Parking of vehicles on either side of the Kumbakonam-Mayiladuthurai highway from the junction to the bypass is giving nightmares to pedestrians. I request the traffic police to take action against those parking the vehicles at unauthorised areas hindering free flow of traffic.

Drain turns
into eyesore
A huge drain near the new bus stand in Pudukottai has been posing a health hazard to the residents. A large number of shops, including those selling snacks are located on the drain. I request the municipal authorities to take action to check the menace by closing it with concrete slabs.

Mushroom diet
Mushrooms is becoming a popular diet because of its richness in proteins, minerals, carbohydrates, and vitamins. The Horticulture Department should conduct training programmes for women in mushroom cultivation.

Infectious
white coat
As a microbiologist, I am shocked to see the plight of the white coats used by some doctors and students at the Government Hospital in Tiruchi. I visited the government hospital last week and could see them sporting the dirty coats. Wearing the same coat, they move to library, cafeteria, and toilets. They even use it while riding motorcycles, giving a goby to the need for sterility. The white coat should only be used at the time of diagnosis to prevent contamination. I request the doctors to realise the intended purpose of the white coats, maintain hygiene, and prevent contamination.

Verify papers of
motorcycle riders
After enforcing the helmet rule, police seem to be keen to stop riders who are not wearing helmets and they do not verify the documents such as driving licence, registration certificate, and insurance. Many riders who wear helmets do not have valid documents. To avoid accidents, it is necessary that riders adhere to rules and have valid documents.

Seat belt forgotten
Car drivers do not use seat belts. Driving instructors should first explain the importance of wearing the seat belt. Even the RTO, when they do the driving test, do not insist on this. Will use of seat belt become a reality?
