New panel to revise school syllabus in TN

The State government on Tuesday announced the reconstitution of a high-level committee headed by School Education Minister K.A. Sengottaiyan that had been set up to oversee educational reforms and quality of education imparted to students in the State. New members have been added to this panel.

A new T.N. Curriculum Framework Committee headed by M. Anandakrishnan, former Vice-Chancellor of Anna University, has been constituted to revise the syllabus in schools.

Corrective measures

A G.O. issued noted that the high-level committee would focus on corrective measures to be implemented to better the education system in the State and look into infrastructural development and needs of schools. The committee, on which the School Education Secretary T. Udhayachandran and E. Balaguruswamy, former Vice-Chancellor of Anna University, serve, would focus on examination-related reforms as well as implement training methods for school teachers. “The committee will look into the defects of the current education system and initiate reforms for classes 1 to 12,” the G.O. stated. The syllabus revision will be carried out in phases. New syllabus for classes 1,6,9 and 11 will be implemented in 2018-19.
