The operational capability of the Mandapam station of the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) is all set to enhance with the acquisition of one more interceptor boat.
The boat, C-414, which was commissioned in Goa on January 19, was commanded to the Mandapam station by Deputy Commandant Bablu Kumar and received by Station Commander H.H. More at a brief function.
Mr. More said the interceptor, built by L&T Yard, was 28 metres long and could achieve a speed of 45 knots per hour. It weighed 135 tonnes of Gross Registered Tonnage.

The boat with a 11-member crew on board could be operated under the administrative and operational control of the Commander, Coast Guard Region, East. It could be launched for operation in a short time. It had radars, sensors, night vision binoculars and other latest equipment.
The Mandapam station’s fleet now comprises three interceptor boats, five hovercrafts, including two UK-made Air Cushion Vehicle Hovercraft-ACV H 195, and two interceptor craft.
