Chief Minster Edappadi S. Palaniswamy announced a series of new projects for Theni district, especially for Bodi and Andipatti unions, at the MGR birth centenary celebration held here on Thursday.
Inaugurating development works, he said 11 check dams – including those across the Valaiyaru at Nattamaithoppu, Pillaiyar Oothu odai at Thevaram, the Vaigai at Kadamalaigundu and Nagalar odai near S.S. Puram, Kottakudi river at three places in Bodi, and the Manjalaru at Genguvarpatti village – would be constructed in the districts.

The anicut channel connecting Mathuvar tank would be renovated and covered with a concrete apron to benefit 474 acres, he added.
The Chief Minister said Meeru Samudram tank would be rehabilitated and Andipatti - T. Subbulapuram Road and the road connecting the Collectorate and Bodi Bypass would be strengthened. Two overbridges – one on Moolakadai Road and the other at Thangammalpuram – would be constructed. Infrastructure facilities would be upgraded at Periyakulam Government Hospital and sophisticated equipment would be provided.
Theni Government Medical College Hospital would get a Geriatrics Centre soon. Tablets would be offered to 162 village health nurses. A dialysis unit would be provided to Cumbum GH and a modern eye care centre would be created at Veerapandi GH.

Health care facilities would be extended to Mayiladumparai and Kadamalaigundu blocks he announced.
