National Safety Week celebrations at KKNPP

The 44th National Safety Week celebration commenced at Kudankulam Nuclear Power Project on Wednesday with the hoisting of safety flag.

As the employees assembled near the fire station on the KKNPP premises, the safety flag was hoisted by R.S. Sundar, Site Director, KKNPP after which safety pledge was administered to the employees by H.N. Sahu, Station Director, P.A. Pillai, Chief Construction Engineer, and M. Balasubramanian, president of the employees’ union.

The employees took the oath to rededicate themselves to the cause of safety, health and protection of environment. Message from Nuclear Power Corporation of India’s Chairman and Managing Director K.C. Purohit’s message was also read out.

Addressing the gathering, Mr. Sundar stressed the need for taking proactive and predictive measures for prevention of accidents and occupational diseases in the interest of self, family, community, organisation and the nation at large.

He urged everyone to adopt the good practices promulgated by International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and World Association of Nuclear Operators (WANO). P.K. Khare, Officer In-Charge (Industrial Safety and Fire Section), said that safety competitions would be conducted as part of Safety Week Celebrations.

A road safety awareness campaign is being organised for the KKNPP employees, their wives and children.
