Ayodhiyapattinam town panchayat and the surrounding village panchayats people have opposed the move to shift the Sub-Registrar’s Office from Ayodhiyapattinam town to Nilavarapatti.

The Sub-Registrar’s office was set up at Ayodhiyapattinam town by bifurcating the Ammapettai registrar office in 1983. Since then it has been functioning from a private rented premises at the Ayodhiyapattinam town.

The Sub-Registrar’s office at Ayodhiyapattinam was serving 23 village panchayats, including Adikaripatti, Achankuttapatti, Odaiyapatti, Kuppanur; Thailanur, Sukkampatti, Valasaiyur, Anuppur, Karipatti, Kullampatti, S. The officials were said to have identified a site at Nilavarapatti in Panamarathupatti Panchayat Union.

A cross section of society of Ayodhiyapattinam panchayat union said that if the Sub-Registrar’s office is shifted to Nilavarapatti, the residents of panchayats such as Aladipatti, Kottathupatti, Achankuttapatti and Kuppanur would have to travel a distance of more than 50 km. The shifting of the Sub-Registrar’s office would badly hit all sections of society, particularly the poor and downtrodden, a cross section of the people of the panchayats in Ayodhiyapattinam union observed.

The official machinery should take steps for identifying a suitable site in Ayodhiyapattinam itself for housing the Sub-Registrar’s office, they pointed out.

Meanwhile, C. P. Vaithilingam, treasurer of the Salem East district Congress unit, urged the State Government to drop its move of shifting the office to Nilavarapatti.

In a memorandum to the Chief Minister, Mr. Vaithilingam stated that Ayodhiyapattinam is well situated that the residents of all the 23 village panchayats have to travel only 10 to 15 km. to reach the Sub-Registrar’s office.

There is lot of Government natham poramboke land available at Ayodhiyapattinam town and the surrounding villages.

It may not be difficult for the government to convert the land from one department to another.

All the panchayats have opposed the move and have come forward to provide adequate suitable land for the construction of the building for the Sub-Registrar’s office. The Government should take initiative for identifying suitable site in Ayodhiyapattinam itself, he added.
