Mother and daughter tied up, robbed in Katpadi

Duo admitted to CMC Hospital; three special teams formed to nab the culprits

Unidentified persons tied up and assaulted two women and escaped with nearly 30 sovereigns of jewellery near Senguttai Road in Katpadi on Sunday.

According to the police, Nalini Nesa Deepam, 42, is a staff nurse at the Christian Medical College in Vellore. She is unmarried and lives with her 80-year-old mother, Indrani, in a single-storeyed house on Senguttai Road in Katpadi.

Around 1.30 a.m on Sunday, three men gained entry into the house when the two were fast asleep. They tied up the women and assaulted Nalini. They then took away 30 sovereigns of jewellery kept in the house.

Around 3 a.m, the women managed to free themselves and called their relative for help. They were admitted to Christian Medical College hospital and the Katpadi police were alerted. Based on a complaint filed by Nalini, a case was registered.

Senior police officers inspected the scene of crime. Sniffer dogs and forensic experts were pressed into service. Three special teams have been formed to crack the case. The burglars seem to have spoken in Hindi.

Further investigation is on.
