Two girls, aged 12 and 9, who were allegedly repeatedly raped by their father and brother, were rescued by Uvari police on Tuesday.

The police said the victims were living in a single rented room in a village under Uvari police station limits along with their parents and a brother, a school dropout. The girls’ father, a mason, used to sexually assault their mother, a deaf and dumb woman, in the presence of the children.

When he allegedly started sexually assaulting his 12-year-old daughter, studying Class VI, the mother tried to prevent it. However, her husband assaulted her violently, and her physical inability prevented her from sharing the trauma with others.

On seeing his father sexually assaulting his 12-year-old sister, the 16-year-old boy allegedly started sexually assaulting his 9-year-old sister, a Class III student, and it continued for the past four days.

The matter came to light after a villager, who rescued the girls and their mother when the two accused were away, alerted District Child Protection Committee on Tuesday. Following proper counselling, the victims were taken to Tirunelveli Medical College Hospital as they had suffered external injuries.
