The Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK) has called for defeating the “fascist” BJP government at the Centre and the “undemocratic” AIADMK government in the State under the leadership of the DMK.

This is one of the 37 resolutions that were passed at the party’s Mupperum Vizha (State conference) held here on Saturday.

The party said the BJP-led government at the Centre had unleashed a fascist rule and had indulged in violence and oppression against the minorities, Dalits and the tribal people.

‘Will fulfil duty’

The Centre had deceived the State on the Cauvery issue and was forcibly implementing the methane extraction and hydrocarbon projects to destroy the Cauvery basin. “Both the BJP and its puppet the AIADMK should be defeated and the MDMK will fulfil its political duty,” the resolution declared.

Another resolution said that due to heavy rains in Karnataka, surplus water was released into Cauvery. But the release should be regular and the Centre should ensure that the final award of the Cauvery Water Tribunal was followed.

A resolution also condemned the decision of the Centre to seek opinion from Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Puducherry on Karnataka’s proposal for constructing a dam at Mekedatu. Other resolutions passed at the meeting called for implementing the 27% quota for backward class students in Central government schools, retaining the storage level at the Mullaperiyar dam, taking steps to close down Sterlite Industries’ plant at Thoothukudi permanently, implementing the Pandiyaru–Punnampuzha scheme and encouraging import of sand to prevent sand smuggling.

MDMK leader Vaiko, DMK treasurer Duraimurugan, Dravida Kazhagam leader K. Veeramani and leaders of various political parties were present.
