Four separate teams of doctors deputed by the Medical Council of India (MCI) conducted surprise inspection simultaneously in four government medical colleges in the State on Friday.
According to sources, the four teams from various medical institutions across the country inspected the infrastructure and other facilities created for increasing the number of MBBS seats from 100 to t at the government medical colleges in Kanyakumari, Madurai, Tirunelveli and Coimbatore.
The sources here said that the teams would continue their inspection on Saturday.

The team, which visited the Kanyakumari Government Medical College Hospital consisted of T.S. Ranganath, Professor, Community Medicine, Bangalore Medical College;
Rajesh Godara, Professor in General Surgery, Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences, Rohtak Medical College, and Raja Ray, Professor, Department of Microbiology, Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education, Calcutta.
The team will inspect the facilities required for increasing the MBBS seats such as number of beds, lecture halls, surgery and medicine units, faculty members, out-patient units in general and paediatric wings, hostel, laboratory facilities etc.

The KGMCH had improved the bed capacity from 600 to 900 and increased the surgery and medicine units to six each, besides having three OP units for general and paediatric wings, said T. Leo David, Dean (in charge).
