Man dies as gelatine sticks explode while digging well

A 47-year-old man died in a blast when gelatine sticks, apparently used for blasting rocks, exploded while a farm well was being dug at Sirukudal village in the district on Tuesday evening.

The police gave the name of the victim of C. Mookan of Valikandapuram.

Police sources said a group of four persons were engaged in digging a farm well when the gelatine sticks that were suspected to have been placed a few days ago for blasting the rocks suddenly exploded.

The workers were using a driller to dig the well when the gelatine sticks exploded under the pressure.

The injured P. Rajendran, K. Thangaraju and K. Venkatesan were rushed to a hospital in Tiruchi. The Maruvathur police are investigating.
