Six young men will be riding motorcycles across 2000 km in Tamil Nadu to raise awareness about organ donation through a “Rally for Life”.

MOHAN (Multi Organ Harvesting Aid Network) Foundation, a national Non-Government Organization that promotes organ donation, has organised the event. MOHAN has helped create an organ sharing network among hospitals performing transplants in the country.

The motorcycle rally seeks to build upon the recent rise in organ donation activity (almost 109 cadaver organs in last 9 months) from various districts of Tamil Nadu. The readiness of families to donate has inspired the volunteers of the Foundation to undertake the nine-day motorbike rally in various parts of the state. The rally participants will cover nine centres - Vellore, Salem, Coimbatore, Tirunelveli, Madurai, Tiruchi, Dindigul, Thanjavur and Puducherry.

The rally will be flagged off on September 9 in Chennai. The rallyists will be accompanied by an ambulance to ensure their safety.

Since its inception in1997, MOHAN Foundation has distributed organ donor cards in various Indian languages, held patient support group meetings, trained transplant coordinators, counselled organ donor families and published the quarterly Indian Transplant Newsletter.
