A Tasmac- run liquor retail outlet in Panankadu village, near the native place of Gandhian Sasi Perumal, was partly gutted when some unidentified miscreants set it on fire in the early hours on Monday.
The shop was functioning from a small room on the Salem–Elampillai road about 15 km from the city.
Police said the miscreants had made a hole on the asbestos sheet roof of the shop and set it on fire around 2 a.m. Fire personnel rushed to the spot and put it out. Liquor bottles kept in about 25 carton boxes were damaged.

S.Selvaraj, Deputy Commissioner of Police, visited the spot.
Meanwhile, a Tasmac outlet in Gurubarapalli in Krishnagiri district was partially set ablaze past midnight on Monday.
According to the police, the Tasmac salesman had shut the shop on Sunday night and left for home. However, in the wee hours, locals saw smoke emanating from the Tasmac outtlet.

The miscreants bore a hole through the rear wall and threw burning tyres and tubes. The police have asked at least one salesman to stay back at every shop during the nights. In addition, the night-beat police would undertake periodic visits to the Tasmac outlets in their respective jurisdiction.
Speaking to The Hindu , SP Kannammal said the Prohibition Enforcement Wing will hold vigil periodically at night.
