The State government has launched a Skill Development Programme under which it will impart training to one lakh youth, Rajeev Ranjan, Principal Secretary, Industries Department, said here on Wednesday.
Speaking at the national conference on Total Productivity Maintenance (TPM) organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Mr. Ranjan said the youth, after completing the training, would become employable in the manufacturing sector.
In order to impart training, the State had identified 15 sectors, which included leather, automotive components and chemicals. The government would spend Rs.6,000 per student, he said.

It had introduced a single-window clearance scheme, aimed at attracting more investments into the State.
Already, the government had passed legislation in this regard and named it Facilitation Act. It was now with the Central government, awaiting Presidential assent, he said.
In an attempt to create two million jobs in the State, the government had come out with an Industrial Policy a couple of years ago. Increasing competitiveness was one of the important aspects of the policy, he said.

The government had also formed a State Manufacturing Competitiveness Council, headed by the Deputy Chief Minister, he said.
T.T. Ashok, Deputy Chairman, CII – Southern Region, said CII had championed the implementation of various management practices such as ISO 9000, TQM, TPM, Lean Management and Six Sigma.
TPM had supported the Indian industry in the journey of competitiveness, especially in the manufacturing sector.
On the occasion, three companies — Vardhaman Spinning and General Mills Ltd in the operator category, SKF India Ltd, Pune, in the managers category and Sundaram Fasteners Ltd, Krishnapuram in the senior managers category — were selected as BEST Kaizen Champions in India for the year 2010 and bagged the Sona Kaizen Award.
