They face charges of ‘illegal’ fishing

The Lankan Navy has arrested four more fishermen on charges of illegal fishing in Sri Lankan waters, crossing the International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL). This was the second arrest in the new fishing season after that of the 12 fisherman on July 5.

The four Mandapam fishermen – Irulandi, Selvam, Dinesh and Govindan – had set out to fish on Saturday. The Lankan Northern Naval Command arrested them along with their trawler (IND TN 11 MM 292) later that night, reports said. Fisheries Department officials said they were brought before a Magistrate in Kayts and remanded in judicial custody in the Jaffna prison till July 13.
