Land allotted for music and fine arts varsity at Sholinganallur

The State government has allotted 31 acres of land at Sholinganallur in Chennai for the Tamil Nadu Music and Fine Arts University, vice-chancellor E. Gayathri said on Tuesday.

The university, which was started last year, has introduced postgraduate courses in vocal, veena, violin, mridangam, thavil, flute, nagaswaram and bharathanatyam this year, Ms. Gayathri told reporters here on the sidelines of a seminar organised by Seethalakshmi Ramaswami College.

She said the university has started a postgraduate diploma course in digital photography and visual communication this year. The university is unique having music, fine arts and sculpture under one roof.

The institution is functioning from the campus of the Tamil Nadu Government Music College, she said, adding that the government has allotted land exclusively for the university at Sholinganallur.

Funds have been granted by the government to make arrangements while starting the courses, she said.
