Three new taluks in the district –Kodumudi, Modakurichi and Thalavadi – have started functioning out of temporary buildings.

While Kodumudi and Modakurichi were carved out of Erode taluk, bifurcation of Sathy gave birth to Thalavadi taluk.

Erode district received the highest share of three taluks out of 20 new ones announced last year for the entire State by Chief Minister Jayalalithaa.
Staff have been transferred from elsewhere in the district to the new taluks, though the full complement of strength in each taluk could be reached only stage by stage, official sources said.
The new taluk offices have been functioning since last month at a marriage hall in Kodumudi, a community centre in Modakurichi, and a government building at Thalavadi.

The new taluks have obviated the need for people to travel long distances to secure important certifications.
Residents of villages in Sathyamangalam Tiger Reserve hope that formation of Thalavadi taluk would result in economic growth.
For upgrade of Thalavadi into a taluk, the State Government had relaxed the population norm in consideration of economic backwardness and inhospitable terrain. With the formation of the new taluks, parity in the numbers in Erode and Gobi Divisions has been created.
Erode Division will henceforth encompass Erode, Perundurai, Modakurichi and Kodumudi. Gobi Division has in its jurisdiction Gobi, Sathyamangalam, Bhavani and Anthiyur taluks.
Anthiyur taluk was formed in 2012 with four blocks: Anthiyur, Athani, Burgur and Ammapet, by restructuring Gobi and Bhavani taluks, for the benefit of residents on Bargur hills.
