Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam president M. Karunanidhi on Sunday criticised External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid for his observations on the resolution to be moved in the United Nations Human Rights Council against Sri Lanka and accused him of siding with the adversary.
A few days ago, Mr. Khurshid told reporters that he had asked the Sri Lankan Foreign Minister to engage with the United States and keep that country informed of the steps it might have taken to improve human rights so as to arrive at a draft acceptable to all.
“His remarks add insult to injury. It appears that instead of standing at the forefront of our army, he has defected to the enemy camp and given advice to the other side,” Mr. Karunanidhi said.

The Minister’s statement “has caused anguish and disappointment to the Tamils across the world.”
Had India adopted a hands-off approach, would it have been possible for the country to take a stand against the apartheid regime in South Africa? Could Indira Gandhi have supported the liberation movement of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman [in what is now Bangladesh]? “The Tamils will certainly raise these questions,” Mr. Karunanidhi said, urging the people to support the general strike called for Tuesday.
