Stating that the monthly allocation of kerosene to Tamil Nadu has been cut by 13,377 KL without any reason or logic, Chief Minister Jayalalithaa has sought additional allocation from the Centre to mitigate the sufferings of the rural poor and vulnerable segments of the population.
In a letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, she said that the drastic reduction of the allotment from 52,806 KL in April and May, 2011 to 44,580 KL in June 2011, caused great hardship.
After her government came to power, the allotment, without any reason or logic, was further reduced to 39,429 KL for the quarter April 2012-June 2012, she pointed out.

Recalling her earlier letters and interaction with the Prime Minister, she demanded allocation of 65,140 kilolitres, the original requirement of the State, or at least 52,806 KL per month to tide over the acute shortage of kerosene.
The Centre's monthly allotment of 42,460 KL with an increase of just over 3,000 KL per month and this increase was “negligible,” when compared to the “drastic reduction” effected earlier, Ms. Jayalalithaasaid, adding that this has put her government to “great hardship.”
