he number of visitors to the Children’s Park in VOC Park has started going up over the last three days. With the conclusion of annual examinations in most schools, the number is expected to go up at the park which is among the very few hangouts for children in the city.
Less than two years ago, the Corporation spent Rs. 30 lakh to replace the worn-out play equipment in the park. The Children’s Park is frequented by about 250 people on weekdays and on weekends it goes up to 1,000. During school vacation, the number of visitors rises to even 2,000.
This park, though aimed at children, also has space for parents. Children aged up to 12 or 13 years can crawl, climb and slide in more than 30 games. Parents have chairs to sit under a shady tree or go for a walk on a footpath along the periphery of the one acre park.

At the right side of the open park, housed in a small building, is a section for children aged below five years, where there are about 10 games that are specially designed for them. The park can accommodate more than 500 persons (children and parents) at a time. The entry fee per person is Rs. 3 (for all) and it is open from 9 a.m. to 8.30 p.m.
