Jayalalithaa to attend Modi’s swearing-in ceremony on Wednesday

Chief Minister and All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam general secretary Jayalalithaa will attend the swearing-in ceremony of Narendra Modi as Gujarat Chief Minister in Ahmedabad on Wednesday (December 26).

Invitation

An official release issued on Sunday stated that Mr. Modi had sent an invitation to Ms. Jayalalithaa to attend the ceremony.

Ten years ago, when Mr. Modi became Chief Minister for the second time, Ms. Jayalalithaa had participated in the swearing-in ceremony.

In 2008, within a month of taking charge as Chief Minister for the third time, Mr. Modi, accompanied by his colleague in the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Ravi Shankar Prasad, called on the AIADMK leader at her residence on the eve of Pongal festival and their luncheon meeting lasted two hours.

In May 2011, when Ms Jayalalithaa took charge as Tamil Nadu Chief Minister for the third time, Mr. Modi participated in the swearing-in ceremony.

Four months later, she deputed her party floor leaders in Parliament, M. Thambidurai, and V. Maitreyan to Ahmedabad when Mr. Modi observed a three-day fast for “peace, unity and harmony.”
