Taking a dig at her political adversaries, AIADMK supremo and Chief Minister Jayalalithaa on Saturday said unlike many others who cancel their campaigns, she had come to meet the people despite running fever.
Addressing a meeting at Triplicane while campaigning for S.R. Vijayakumar, AIADMK’s Central Chennai constituency candidate, she said: “I consulted my doctor and came here after popping a pill. This is your sister who keeps her promises.”
Targeting the BJP and its prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi on the Cauvery issue, she said that Mr. Modi in an interview to a Tamil daily had said that the issue will be resolved by setting up a Cauvery Management Board and interlinking of rivers. “But the BJP has not given any assurance on that. It is only trying to divert the issue,” she said.

Departing from the text and going extempore, she launched an attack on Mr. Modi and said that during his campaign in Kanyakumari he had said that a difference of opinion between her and Congress president Sonia Gandhi was the reason for Tamil Nadu fishermen’s issue being unresolved.
“In Ramanathapuram he gave the reason as a lack of strong government at the Centre. In connection with Gujarat fishermen being captured by Pakistan, can I say a clash between Mr. Modi and Ms. Gandhi is the reason,” she questioned.

Earlier, campaigning for the party’s Alandur Assembly candidate V.N.P. Venkatraman, Ms. Jayalalithaa said that of the 177 promises made in the 2011 Assembly elections, 150 had been fulfilled and rest were under implementation. She listed the various schemes being implemented in the Assembly constituency for which by-elections will be held on April 24. “Metro Rail works are being speeded up … once they are completed, this area will become a major transport hub and residents too will be able to commute easily to different parts of the city,” she said.
