Chief Minister Jayalalithaa is being inconsistent and adopting contradictory stand on the Cauvery water dispute by demanding immediate meeting of the Cauvery River Authority after having opposed its constitution, DMK president M. Karunanidhi alleged on Monday.

Talking to reporters here, Mr. Karunanidhi recalled that Ms. Jayalalithaa had boycotted a meeting of the Cauvery River Authority. “She had once said ‘no' to the authority, but now wants a meeting to be convened. She comes across as a bundle of contradictions as far as the Cauvery dispute is concerned, but at the same time, we cannot give up the rights of Tamil Nadu.”

He also rejected the allegation that the Centre had failed to allocate adequate funds for Tamil Nadu. Asked whether he would attend the all-party meeting on May 23 in Delhi to decide the Presidential candidate, Mr. Karunanidhi said he had not received any information in this regard.

He made it clear the DMK, being part of the Congress-led UPA at the Centre, would support the candidate of the alliance.

Asked whether the DMK would support DMDK candidate in Pudukottai by-poll if the party approached him, he said, “Let us see if they seek our support.”
