Jail for former govt. employee

A former government employee was sentenced by a Chengalpattu court to four years rigorous imprisonment for demanding a bribe to release a seized lorry in 2004.

Pasupathy (62) of Chengalpattu, while serving as a junior assistant at the Revenue Divisional Office, Madurantakam, had demanded a bribe from a lorry owner to release the vehicle that was impounded for transporting illegally quarried sand.

Chief Judicial Magistrate S. Devanathan handed the four years RI and a fine of Rs. 8,000 to the accused on Friday.
