Incessant showers bring down temperature in Vellore

Heavy downpour likely in next 24 hours; city records 6.8 mm

Many parts of Vellore district received incessant showers on Wednesday.

There was continuous drizzle throughout the day in many parts of Vellore. From 8.30 a.m. to 5.30 p.m. on Wednesday, Vellore alone recorded 6.8 mm rainfall.

The maximum temperature during this period was 27.3 degree Celsius, according to the meteorological office, Vellore.

The district received an average rainfall of 16.72 mm from 8.30 a.m. on Tuesday to 8.30 a.m. on Wednesday. Arakkonam recorded the highest rainfall in the district with 33 mm rains, followed by Kaveripakkam – 26.4 mm and Sholinghur – 25 mm.

Rainfall in other parts of the district: Vellore – 16.9 mm, Ambur – 8.4 mm, Vaniyambadi – 11 mm, Alangayam – 14 mm, Walajah – 11.6 mm, Tirupattur – 12.3 mm, Arcot – 18.4 mm, Gudiyatham – 10.8 mm and Melalathur – 12.8 mm.

With the Meteorological Department predicting very heavy rainfall for Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram and Chennai for the next 24 hours, Vellore, due to its proximity to these areas, might receive moderate to light rains with thundershowers, officials said.
