Chaos and confusion have been haunting the Gandhigram Rural Institute over the functioning of office of the Vice-Chancellor as the Vice-Chancellor in-charge, who assumed office on Friday, and the Registrar stuck to their stands.
While the registrar has been waiting for orders from the Ministry for Human Resources Development to react, the Vice-Chancellor in-charge, T. Senthivel, has been finding ways to win the cooperation of staff and faculty to function as in-charge till the appointment of the new Vice-Chancellor.
He had circulated a second letter to all the departments and to the registrar about his assuming office as VC-in-charge.

Mr. Senthivel said that this confused state could have been avoided easily, if the GRI had convened a Board of Management meeting and settled the issue amicably. “I did not get proper reply from the administration for the reasons behind the proposal recommending a junior faculty for the post of V-C in-charge. Without any recommendation from the GRI, the MHRD will not approve his name for this post,” he said.
Administrative sources said that convening BoM meeting was not an easy task.
Four members were outsiders and 80 per cent of the total 12 members should attend the meeting for any decision to be taken, sources added.

Registrar N. Narayanaswamy said that English Department Dean A. Joseph Dorairaj did not join as in-charge owing to the interim stay.
“We had briefed the MHRD about the situation and are awaiting its order,” he pointed out.
To avoid any untoward situation, office of the Vice-Chancellor was opened by the administration officials on Monday morning as usual and all V-C office staff were present.
