Illegally stored explosives seized, one held

Police have arrested a 50-year-old man and seized a huge haul of illegally stocked gelatin sticks and detonators from his house.

Based on information, police personnel attached to the Kondapalayam station inspected the house of Ponnaiyan of Karaikal village on Arakkonam-Sholinghur Road. They found that he had illegally stocked 500 gelatin sticks, 375 detonators, 12 bundles of wire, one kg of sulphur, 10 kg of black powder and 40 kg of ammonium nitrate.

They seized the explosives and arrested him. He was booked under Explosives Act. Police said he had kept the explosives illegally for blasting rocks. He has been remanded.
