GOOD RESPONSE:Crèches started under a pilot project by the ICDS in Perambalur district have been received well by the working women.

Four crèches established under a pilot project of the Integrated Child Development Scheme (ICDS) in the district have come as a boon to working women. The crèches are attached to the anganwadi in Veppanthattai, Kunnam, and Indira Nagar in Padalur, besides the special unit at the Collector’s Office. A total of 60 infants in the age group of 0-5 years have been accommodated at the crèches, at the rate of 15 infants per unit.

“The crèche at the Collector Office accommodates the children of women employees of the Collector’s Office, Courts, and District Police Office,” said Darez Ahmed, District Collector.

P.Sridevi, an employee of the District Treasury Office, said the employees took proper care of her two-year-old son.

The location of the crèche at a stone’s throw distance from her office is another advantage. The employees said that they were relieved from the burden of nursing their kids which help them to concentrate in their work better. Toys, play materials, mats and other infrastructure have been provided at the crèches.
