State second rank holder S.E. Vigneshwaran, whose total of 1,190 out of 1,200 is studded with centums in physics, chemistry, computer science and mathematics, has his sight on Indian Administrative Service.

“It has been his dream from childhood,” said his parents S. Elango, a goldsmith, and Shanmugapriya, a home-maker. “I will achieve my dream after completing B.E. in mechanical engineering,” Vigneshwaran said.

He said he missed out on the State first rank due to less than expected scores in Tamil (196) and English (194). His academic performance has been consistent all through. As a student of the same school, he had scored a total of 492 out of 500 in SSLC.

His parents said they did not believe in putting pressure on him, but ensured a conducive environment for studying at home. “Vigneshwaran neither went to private tuitions nor overworked himself. He used to finish studying before 10 p.m., and wake up at 5 a.m,” they said, adding that their son had made it a point to restrict watching television.
