Heavy flow in Courtallam Falls; visitors upset over ban on bathing

The overcast sky at Courtallam created favourable weather conditions for tourists and locals, who thronged the tourist spot on Saturday. The weather in Courtallam was a welcome respite from scorching heat for the visitors.

Though scores of tourists gathered near the waterfalls to enjoy their weekend, they were disappointed as the heavy flow in the wake of rains prompted the authorities to ban bathing.

It was drizzling since morning hours and the day remained dull without sunshine.

The tourists were restricted from nearing the main water falls since 6 a.m. and the restriction was in force until 12.30 p.m. Water fell beyond the arch.

As far as five falls were concerned, restriction was effective from 7.30 a.m. to 11.40 a.m., Executive Officer of Courtallam Town Panchayat, R. Elangovan told The Hindu . But thereafter, the visitors had a good time with their families.

With heavy rain accompanied by wind lashing parts of Tirunelveli district on Friday night, banana crop in farms at Gopalasamudram, Pirancheri and its surroundings was damaged, sources said.
