Residents of certain parts of the city are facing unscheduled power cuts due to technical snags in the distribution network system during the past few days.

While the residents of Velachery had no power supply on Tuesday early morning, people living in areas from Nungambakkam to Foreshore Estate went without power on Monday.

Tangedco officials said the extremely hot climate was causing power disturbance in the form of minor technical snags like jumper problem or pillar boxes malfunction. A senior official said the power failure in Velachery on Tuesday was due to a local problem and supply was restored within 15 minutes. The power failure on Monday was due to a disruption in supply from Manali substation. The disruption caused power blackout in the central circle from Nungambakkam to Foreshore Estate. The power supply which got disturbed at 10.30 a.m. was restored in phases.

The Tangedco officials are mainly concerned that high-tension power lines do not suffer from Corona Effect, which would pose a bigger headache for restoring power supply.
