The Madras High Court on Tuesday directed the authorities concerned to renew the licences of 767 hotels, which were denied renewal for failure to provide parking facilities in their premises.
The First Bench of Acting Chief Justice Huluvadi G. Ramesh and Justice R.M.T. Teekaa Raman granted the relief to the small-time hotels while hearing a PIL plea by S. Ragu of Vyasarpadi seeking closure of hotels and restaurants till they provide parking space, open space and fire safety facilities within their premises.
On February 11, the High Court directed the government to shut down the hotels without proper parking facilities. Subsequently, the Chennai Hotel Association moved an impleading petition and sought to vacate the ban for small-time hotels.

Allowing their petition, the Bench said the licences can be renewed by receiving the fee as a large number of beneficiaries, 767 hotels, are covered in thepetition.
