The Madras High Court Bench here on Friday allowed a petition filed by actor Dhanush and quashed the case filed against him by an elderly couple, before a Judicial Magistrate at Melur near here in November last.
They sought a maintenance of ₹60,000 a month by claiming to be his biological parents .
Justice P.N. Prakash read out the operative portion of the order alone in the open court.

R. Kathiresan (65) and K. Meenakshi (53) of Melur near here had filed the maintenance case by claiming that Dhanush was their son K. Kalaichelvan who dropped out of Class XI in 2002 and went to Chennai to pursue his interest in acting. They claimed that he had changed his screen name to Dhanush and failed to take care of them.
However, denying their claim, the 33-year-old actor said that he was born to R. Krishnamoorthy and K. Vijayalakshmi in Chennai on July 28, 1983 and was named as R.K. Vengadesha Prabhu. He also claimed that his father and he had changed their names to Kasthoori Raja and Dhanush K. Raja respectively and notified it in the gazette.
Further, relying upon a copy of a ration card issued to his family in 2005, he pointed out it contains the names of his parents, brothers, sisters and himself. “My brother Selvaragavan is a renowned film director,” he added. The actor also suspected that someone was using the elderly couple as a proxy to extort money from him.

Opposing the couple’s plea for subjecting him to a DNA test, he said that his hesitation to undergo DNA test was not because he had something to hide but because his integrity and right to privacy should not be tested at the instance of people who file frivolous cases.
