It is happy to know that the Uyyakondan canal is being cleaned up at the behest of the district administration. After clearing the bushes on the eastern bank of the canal, more space is available. If the space is allowed to remain as such, it may be spoiled again by the locals in course of time. Tree saplings especially teak should be planted. I request the district officials to take up the task of greening the banks of Uyyakondan immediately and hand over the same to the Forest Department for effective maintenance.

“Close open urinal”

East Adayavalanjan Street in Srirangam is used as an open urinal by some people. Residents are facing much hardship due to the foul smell and filth. The Corporation should take steps to prevent the practice.

“Don’t touch fertile wet lands”

The Union government seems hell bent on passing the Land Acquisition Bill. The worst affected are farmers. Government can import oil, fertilizers and heavy machinery, which are not consumed by all Indians. But every citizen of this nation requires food for which agriculture is a prerequisite. Despite heavy odds, farmers are keen to do farming. This intention of farmers must be saluted and promoted. Only inevitable acquisition must be allowed and fertile wet lands must not be touched.

“Keep the city clean”

The Corporation is taking efforts to keep the city clean and people should cooperate. Every day, its employees visit houses to collect garbage. Yet some throw their garbage while driving or walking. The garbage is found scattered all around the bins. Residents should sure that they hand over the garbage to the civic staff or put it in the bins placed.

“Treat waste water”

A legislator of Karnataka government claims that the waste water generated daily by the Bangaloreans to the extent of about ten million is let out into the Cauvery untreated. We should urge the Karnataka government to ensure that the waste water is not let out into the Cauvery. They should treat the water properly for secondary use. I request Chief Minister Jayalalithaa to pay attention to the problem affecting the health of Tamilians.

Pension scheme

The LIC has introduced Varishtha Pension Bima Yojana for the benefit of senior citizens. But the process is very slow. I request the authorities to issue the document and complete the process in a speedy manner.

Standard of education in TN

The standard of education in TN has nosedived due to wrong policies of Dravidian parties. The need of the hour is to enhance the standard of education in the State. The CM of Tamil Nadu should accept the realities and do away with the system of all pass up to 8th standard and introduce government examinations in Plus One.

Pedestrian overbridge

A pedestrian overbridge at Melapudur is essential. Three girls’ schools are located in the area. During peak hours, girls get stranded in the middle of the road. The bus halts should be clearly earmarked for different destinations. Will the authorities do the needful?

Sand dunes on

road margins

Sand accumulation along the highway stretch between Samayapuram tollgate to TVS Tollgate in Tiruchi is posing a great hardship to two-wheeler riders. Sand accumulation could be seen in the service lane in some places too. Road medians are broken in some places leading to accidents.
