Granite owners seek anticipatory bail

P.R.P. Granites owner P.R. Palanichamy, Sindhu Granites owner P.K. Selvaraj and their family members have filed anticipatory bail applications at the Madras High Court Bench here after fresh cases were registered against them for illegal quarrying on poramboke lands.

Mr. Palanichamy, his sons P. Senthilkumar, P. Sureshkumar and son-in-law A. Maharajan and the family members of Mr. Selvaraj, including his wife Shanthi Selvaraj and son P.K.S. Suriya Prakash, are among 21 persons who moved the court seeking anticipatory bail.

The Madurai District police had registered fresh cases against the granite quarry operators on Monday after a retired tahsildar complained that they had encroached upon two hectares of government land, quarried illegally and caused a loss of Rs 17.59 crore to the exchequer.
