Grama sabha to discuss removal of trees

The removal of `seemai karuvelam’ trees is one among the subjects to be discussed at the grama sabha meetings scheduled to be held in all the village panchayats in Vellore district on January 26 in connection with the Republic Day.

According to a release from R. Nanthagopal, Collector of Vellore, the meeting would discuss among other things the removal of `seemai karuvelam’ trees which caused depletion of groundwater resources, drinking supply, Maintenance and Renovation of Rural Buildings Scheme 2015-16, dengue prevention measures, Indira Awas Yojana 2015-16, THAI (Tamil Nadu Village Habitation Improvement) Scheme 2015-16, Solar Powered Green Houses Scheme 2015-16, progress of scheme works in the village panchayats, and panchayat administration and expenditure from general funds.

The panchayats have also been asked to discuss themaintenance of the solar streetlights, progress of works under the Tamil Nadu Women’s Development Project, Pudhu Vazhvu Thittam, Prime Minister’s Rural Roads Scheme, and the procedure for conducting social audit on the Integrated Child Development Services.

The Collector has appointed zonal officers for monitoring the conduct of the meetings.

People’s representatives and tahsildars have been asked to participate in the grama sabha meetings in the panchayats in their jurisdiction.
