The Tamil Nadu government will construct 9.08 lakh tenements and houses at a cost of ₹58,356.40 crore as part of the Vision–2023 plan to make the State slum-free, Deputy Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam announced in the Assembly on Monday.
Mr. Panneerselvam said 4.80 lakh houses would be constructed with funds from the State and Central governments, and already, such works were in various stages of completion.
He said the tenements were coming up at a cost of ₹19,537.67 crore.

Mr. Panneerselvam said the State had sought funds to the tune of ₹3,348 crore from the World Bank to provide housing to those living in slums on riverbanks. The proposal for the World Bank funding had been sent to the Centre, he said.
The government would also construct five new buildings at the Tamil Nadu House in New Delhi at a cost of ₹57 crore, he said.
All the Bills that were introduced during the session were eventually passed after a voice vote. Later, the House was adjourned sine-die.
