Good response to ‘Selvamagal Semippu Account’

The recently introduced small savings account for girl children – Sukanya Samriddhi Account – has been getting good response in Vellore and Tirupattur postal divisions.

On Sunday, a total of 1,075 accounts were opened during the special camp held at selected post offices in Vellore,

This account was introduced for the welfare of girl children. It has been christened as “Selvamagal Semippu Account”.

Special camp

The Department of Posts had organised the camps for opening accounts on two Sundays – March 22 and 29.

Last Sunday, the special camp was conducted at seven post offices in Vellore division and nearly 600 accounts were opened, officials said.

On March 29, a total of 1,075 accounts were opened at the HPO and 18 post offices – 128 at Vellore HPO, 81 at Thorapadi post office, 20 at Ussoor post office, 21 at G.R. Palayam post office, 26 at Odugathur, 18 at Sankaranpayalam, 196 at Sathuvachari, 36 at Vellore Fort, 58 at Katpadi, 30 at Katpadi north, 156 at Gandhi Nagar, 53 at Latheri, 48 at CMC Hospital, 42 at Kaniyambadi, 3 at VIT, 128 at Anaicut, 15 at TB Sanatorium, five at Munjurpattu and 11 at Old Town.

Nearly 6,000 accounts have been opened so far in Vellore division.

In Tirupattur

In the Tirupattur postal division, a special campaign for the scheme was organised at Ambur sub post office on March 23.

A total of over 500 accounts were opened. A. Govindarajan, director, Postal Services (Headquarters), Tamil Nadu circle, Chennai handed over the pass books to depositors.

N.P. Sampath, superintendent of post offices, Tirupattur division said till now, 7,965 accounts have been opened in the division. In fact, 760 accounts were opened in the division on Saturday alone.

“In the special camps that were organised at the two head offices at Tirupattur and Gudiyatham and three sub offices at Ambur, Vaniyambadi and Pernambut on Sunday, we have opened as many as 128 accounts. We are expecting to reach 10,000 accounts in the next few days,” he said.
