Police looking for her father and efforts are under way to rehabilitate her

A 16-year-old girl, who has complained of sexual abuse by her father for close to four years, says that she did not tell anyone about it as he threatened to kill her and her mother, according to R. Sivagamavalli, chairperson of the Namakkal District Child Welfare Committee (CWC).

Interaction with the girl gave a shocking insight into the torture that she had undergone for years. “The girl was pregnant thrice and her father made her consume some medicine and had the foetus aborted on all those occasions worsening her health,” Ms. Sivagamavalli told The Hindu .

The girl was rescued by Childline on Tuesday. The police are looking for the father after registering a case against him.

The victim said after her mother underwent a uterus removal surgery a few years ago, her father started sexually abusing her after making the mother consume alcohol. According to representatives of Childline and the CWC, the girl’s relatives sensed something was amiss with her when she visited them. Pressed for an explanation, she narrated her agony to her relatives, who informed Childline on Monday. The girl’s physical and mental condition was very weak. CWC sources said she would be taken to the Salem Government Hospital for a medical check up on Friday. Efforts are under way to properly rehabilitate her, they added.
