Gang stabs two in Hosur, makes away with Rs. 16 lakh

Two employees of a two-wheeler ancillary unit were robbed of Rs.16 lakh by a group of unidentified persons who sprayed chilli powder on their faces and stabbed them in Hosur on Friday night.

The incident took place soon after power went off, when the victims reached the residence of the owner of the ancillary unit at SIPCOT Housing Colony around 7.45 p.m.

K. Shankar, Inspector of Police, SIPCOT police station, told

The Hindu that K. Srinivasan (39) reached the new bus stand here from Bangalore with Rs.16 lakh, the money he collected for his company. He was picked up by another employee M. Muniyappan (39) on a motorcycle. They headed for the owner’s residence to hand over the money. Power supply went off just as they halted in front of the house.

Chilli powder used

Four men who were allegedly waiting near the residence sprayed chilli powder on their faces and snatched the cash bag. When they resisted, the attackers stabbed them with a knife and other weapons.

Srinivasan sustained grievous injuries at five places, including the neck and stomach, and Muniyappan sustained injuries at eight places in the stomach and back.

On hearing the two shouting for help, the public came to their rescue. But, the attackers escaped in the dark with the cash bag.

The public immediately took the injured men to the Government Taluk Hospital in Hosur. They were shifted to a private hospital in Hosur. Both of them were in the intensive care unit, but their condition was stated to be stable, according to police.

Superintendent of Police S.R. Senthil Kumar formed four special teams, headed by the Deputy Superintendents of Polices G. Gopi of Hosur and R. Radhakrishnan of Denkanikottai, to nab the culprits. Two teams left for Karnataka. The robbery appeared to a planned one, Mr. Senthil Kumar said.
