Gandhi statue in Vandavasi Theradi was given heavy police security on Monday as tension brewed between cadre of Congress and Tamil Manila Congress (TMC) over the right to hoist the flag on the mast in the vicinity of the statue.
S.V.Jayanthan, Vandavasi tahsildar convened a peace meeting between the two parties but they failed to arrive at a settlement.
Hence Cheyyar Sub Collector M.Arthi ordered to maintain status quo in the place. As a result police security was provided to the statue and both the parties were not allowed to hoist flag on the mast.

But Congressmen led by its district president Vasantharaj and TMC cadres led by its functionary S.Ravi alias Veeraraghavan were allowed to garland the statue.
