With the spotting of fresh pug marks – one big and another small – and excreta, forest personnel launched a search for the animals on Kavulpalayam Hill, about four km from Perambalur town, on Friday.

Forest personnel placed a specially-designed cage in the area to trap the animals. The plan is to capture and release them in tiger reserves.

A sub-adult leopard was trapped in the cage on Monday (September 9) and was released into Sathyamangalam Tiger Reserve the next day. Forest personnel and local people spotted the pug marks in various places on Friday.
